Walking in County Sligo, Ireland

The walking trails in County Sligo, Ireland are stunning.  Rolling green hills and forests in the east of Sligo give way to heather covered stony mountains which reach down to a spectacular coastline in the west.  So whether you like forest walks, mountain walking or fossil hunting on the ancient sand dunes of the coast, Sligo is for you.  As if this wasn't enough, Sligo has the greatest concentration of neolithic (4,000-5,000 years old) Passage Graves in Western Europe.  Many of these royal burial sites are situated in incredible landscapes with views over ancient lakes and mountains.

W.B Yeats spent much time in his beloved Sligo and now rests in Drumcliff graveyard in the shadow of Ben Bulben.  (The location of many wonderful walks).
